            Being located between Bangalore and Mysore, Mandya District enjoys a good communication network. Existence of a Broadguage railway line connecting Bangalore and Mysore ensures easy transportation of raw materials and finished goods. Having one engineering college and three Polytechnics with different disciplines provides a good backbone of technical manpower for industrialization.

            Mandya is located within 50 kms. radius from various research organisations like CFTRI, DFRL, CIPET, STEP-SJCE which helps in better industrialisation of the district.

            Mandya district has 10 large and Medium scale Industries with an investment of Rs.24,775 and employing 4008 persons.  Recently one large scale sugar industry by name ICL  Sugar has come up in Makavalli village of K.R.Pet taluk and one medium scale Hydro Electric Power Project by name Keelara Power Project has come up at Keelara village of Mandya Taluk and both are under production.

            Mandya district has 5866 registered tiny SSI units with an investment of  8128.48 lakhs employing 28211 persons.

            The District has 2 KIADB industrial areas one at Tubinakere, near Mandya and another at Somanahali, near Maddur, there are 6 KSSIDC industrial estates at Mandya Ganjam (Srirangapatna), Somanahalli(Maddur), Harohalli(Pandavapura), Nagamangala.  Recently a substation of 220 KVA was operationalised at Tubinakere.

            State level Single Window Agency has cleared 5 projects during Global Investors Meet held during June 2000 for a total investment of 18700 lakhs and providing employment to 415.

Since the main crops in the district are Paddy, Sugar Cane, Ragi & coconut, the district has large number of Rice mills, Jaggery units, Ragi cleaning units apart from Sugar industries   based on crops. The district also has many animal feeds manufacturing units. The district has the highest sales of tender coconuts in the state.

The district has some special category of industrial units like Aromatic, Ayurvedic Drugs, PCB Assembly, Tools & dies. Filaments for incandescent bulbs, Florescent ink, High Tech bus body building, Tender coconut water tetra pack unit, Conveyor belt manufacturing etc.

POWER:

Infrastructure of electric power, which is the lifeline of domestic, agricultural and industrial sectors today, is available in the district as follows:

Hydro-Electric power project at Shivanasamudram, the first hydro electric power project in India established in 1902, generates about 42 Megawatts(6x3+4x6MW) electric power.

Hydro-Electric power project at Shimsha established in 1940, generates about 17.2 MW 
(2x8.6MW)electric power.

Keelara power Pvt. Ltd., Hydro electric power project at Keelara, Mandya Taluk is commissioned and functioning with 2 MW capacity.

Malavalli Power Plant Private Limited which is an Agri based project has a generating capacity of 4.5MW

Atria Power Corporation Ltd., has obtained clearances for mini hydro Electric power project at Shimsha with generating capacity of 12 MW. This project is under implementation.
