MANDYA DISTRICT LIBRARIES - A GLANCE

Mandya  District Central Library was established in the year 1975 on 2nd of March, in accordance with the provisions of the Karnataka Public Library Act of 1965. In each of the seven taluk headquarters in Mandya, there are branches of this library.

The District Library Authority is an organisation of the Government. The Deputy Commissioner of the District is its chairman and the District Librarian is the Secretary. The other members are some officers of the Government and local citizens interested in books and libraries. The Authority has resources of its own. The Local Municipal and Panchayat organisations contribute a part of their tax collections to the authority

District central library and its branches provide different services to the public like - Reference service, text books, services to students, Newspapers, periodicals and borrowing of books. Books pertaining to competitive exams are also available. At present the district central library has branches as follows:

City central library authority has been constituted for the city of Mandya as per the provisions of K.P.L. act. City library Authority has to provide library services to public at different extensions of Mandya City.

The  City Central library has a building of its own and it plans to establish a children's multimedia library for which the building construction is under progress.
